Well said. Meanwhile, bosses give themselves pay rises in excess of.200% on top of the massive tax boost handed out by the Chancellor.

The trade union laws in this country(strictest in europe) forbid allowing this type of action otherwise it would be done.

Willingly allowing people to defraud the company is gross misconduct and could result in job loss.

Re: The Rail strike
I’ve said this on here before, do not believe what you read in the paper,

Network rail staff have not been offered 8%. They’ve been offered 4% this year, and 2% each of next two years. On the proviso of multiple safety endangering job cuts and enforced changes to conditions. 8% even this year isn’t even close to keeping up with inflation never mind over 3 years.

Train operating company staff until very recently we’re not offered a penny. Absolutely nothing. Some reports coming out now that 2% has been offered to these staff now with also the closure of many ticket offices attached to this. All this talk of ‘we don’t need ticket offices any more’ is poppycock.
I work on the railway and was at a station a few weeks ago for the day that has one member of staff there. An early Turn between 6 and 2. This station will undoubtedly be closed very soon if the cuts go ahead.

Now on this one early turn the woman who works there sold 180 tickets despite there being 2 ticket machines there. She also used the ramps to put 3 wheelchair users on to trains for London, put up 4 engineering work posters, general cleaning duties and untold advice to people coming in with queries.
Also the fact she was there meant the enclosed within an old station building toilets and waiting room could be opened(these facilities will go when the station shuts).
That’s just one fairly quiet station.

The below quoted salaries is largely rubbish too. Ok drivers earn a good wage, albeit for a fair bit of responsibility. Around 50-55k on my company, Although please remember the RMT by and large do not represent train drivers. At an educated guess it’s less than 5% of them on the railway.

The rest I wouldn’t say is massively overpaid, especially with the restrictions it has on your private life.
I am rostered to work at least one day of 5 weekends out of 6 for example and any alcohol intake has to be well planned.
Honestly I’m not moaning, just outlining facts. it’s the job. I largely enjoy it and work with some cracking people and vast majority of the public are good people.

In my area, cleaners and Barrier staff earn a few pence an hour over minimum wage for 2 out of 3 weekends,5am starts and 11pm finishes.

Dispatch/station staff with stringent safety critical responsibilities earn around 24K with working 2 full weekends out of 3 and nights Included in that,

Revenue protection(ticket collectors)- around 30k.

Maybe not the worst wages in the world but after 3 years with no Payrise and hundreds of millions of pounds of profit with the top bosses taking a nice bonus each year then a reasonable pay rise in the current climate is fair,
I’ve also seen the ‘ticket prices will go up if the workers win’. Your ticket prices have gone up at least 3 times and some 5 times since the last Payrise for normal workers. It just means there will be less profits going abroad.

I don’t know a single railway worker that enjoys being on strike and I truly hope it gets sorted soon.

Re: The Rail strike
Who are they trying to affect?
Ministers? MP's? Rail company execs?
All cruising around in their government / company cars so dont give a shit.

Inconvenience to ordinary people who have no power to do things and in many cases support them.
Was in Paris a long time ago and the Metro strike involved everything running and the staff not selling any tickets and opening the barriers.
Announce ahead of time that November will be free on all trains.
Might see some reaction from the fat cats (cunts) then

With a median salary of £59,000pa (some earn up to £100k pa with overtime) I don't quite understand where they are coming from. The median for ticket collectors is £35,000pa whilst for nurses its £31,000pa, crazy!

I got these figures a while ago from a survey the results of which were published in a national paper. Never seen them on National TV which surprises me, the public may think differently if they were.

Re: The Rail strike
They should re-nationalize the railways then hold a referendum on railway workers pay.

Nailed on 48% will vote to give them a 52% pay rise but nothing will happen for 4 years while all potential legal avenues are pursued.

They earn well above the average national wage already and rejected an 8% pay rise.

Gets YOU on the hook every time - and I don't even have to try.

Don't need my apprenticed trade or my degrees any more now - you can have them if it helps you get on that first rung of the ladder. I'm helpful like that.

If they have to strike and i think they should get their arses back to work, do it on a week day and fuck up peoples work days, not the weekends when people want to have fun, its not our fault yet they seem to want to punish us. To me that makes then cunts, every last one of them.

One of the other strike days meant I couldnt get somewhere with my kids. So what? They need to stand up for themselves. The TOCs need to negotiate with them in good faith. If other sectors were as unionised then more workers would have better pay and conditions.

Re: The Rail strike
Good on them I say.
The CEO's and fat cats are creaming everything from everywhere and are dining out on caviar and champagne, and have just been given a tax cut.
There are people out there who are struggling to put food on the table and heat their homes and if it takes a union such as the RMT to call for a real pay increase and it fucks things up for everyone by making a stand, I personally fully support them and hope they can start making a difference and shift the balance back towards a bit of a level playing field for everyone.

Tbf I don’t think the transport system in this country needs a strike to fuck up thousands of peoples Saturdays, or any other day.

I’d be surprised if there is another country in the world, with such a difference between the exorbitant prices we pay vs the service we get.

WE ARE SORRY TO ANNOUNCE

Re: The Rail strike
What's probably needed is a government limo driver's/chauffeur's strike* at the same time as a rail strike.

The nobs being forced to use a public transport that's not actually transporting anything or anybody (whatever the "security risk") would probably loosen a few purse strings quite quickly.

* - and no "private hire, claim back on expenses" option available, either.
